In the fall, LGE was invited to see the latest water and beekeeping efforts underway at the Flint Community Development Center (aka the Flint Water Lab). We also received an update on when the city would complete the full replacement of their pipes.
As Flint continues to recover from the water crisis of April 2014, Mayor Sheldon Neeley publicly relayed that 97 percent of the pipe replacements are completed and that the EPA has given Flint a one-year extension to complete the rest. Spring 2023 is when all pipe replacements are expected to be completed.
Flint has taken advantage of federal relief and national program dollars. For example, $8.6 million of ARPA funds to reduce the cost of water for the Flint community providing a $300 credit to water users. And to address the fight against blight, $16 million of ARPA funds would be used to demolish as many as 2000 vacant structures in the city.
